2015: Flying Dog vs Stoudts
Our Mid-Atlantic odyssey wraps up with another Lancaster County institution, Stoudts, and a rowdy little brewery in Frederick, Md., Flying Dog.
Stoudts has been a family affair since it was founded by Ed and Carol Stoudt in 1987—Carol being, at the time, the first woman to open a brewery since Prohibition. Stoudts is known for its IPA's and American Pale Ale, as well as Scarlet Lady Ale and several excellent German-style brews.
Flying Dog is as well-known for what's on its bottles as what's inside them—art by Ralph Steadman, illustrator for many of Hunter S. Thompson's works. The beer is pretty good too, including a fine Double IPA, Bloodline orange ale, and—naturally—Gonzo Imperial Porter.
Come enjoy these fine beers at the 2015 Odessa Brewfest, Sept. 12 in Odessa, Del. And be sure to vote for your favorite as we narrow down our brewbracket until we arrive at a champion!
